"description": "The 2026 San Francisco Transgender Film Festival opens with COMEDY, a shorts block featuring four outstanding and hilarious films.\n\nCockroach (23min)Justice Singleton, USA, 2025\n\nA bold, genre-blending short film exploring themes of sex, survival, connection, and identity through an unflinching, darkly funny lens. The film stars John Cameron Mitchell (Hedwig & The Angry Inch, Shortbus) and is written, directed by, and starring Justice Singleton.\n\nRoad to Roswell – A Welcome To Roswell Short (11:02min)StormMiguel Florez, USA, 2025\n\nA trans documentarian heads to Roswell, New Mexico with a small film crew to come out to his family and get it all on camera. On the road to Roswell where an infamous UFO crash allegedly happened in 1947, the crew listens to a sci-fi podcast which piques the camera operator’s curiosity about the town’s history and ignites her obsession with UFOs and Aliens.\n\nWhile the director tries to keep the crew focused his coming out story, the stars may have something else in store for this production.\n\nRoad to Roswell is a short concept film based on StormMiguel Florez’s feature mockumentary, “Welcome To Roswell” which is currently in development.\n\nSam Wants Her Sweater Back (15min)Whitney Chitwood, USA, 2026\n\nAndi and Max’s best friend Sam was dumped months ago. But Sam’s ex, Poppy, still hasn’t returned her sweater. THE Sweater, cream colored, thick knit with the perfect hint of fraying. Andi, recently dumped herself (but why even bring that up?), won’t stand for it! So, in Andi’s mind the world becomes a gritty, neon laced action-thriller as they infiltrate Poppy’s house party in search of The Sweater. As the night unfolds and multiple plans unravel it becomes clear Andi’s vehemence has little to do with her friend’s knitwear and all to do with hiding from her own heartbreak.\n\nA delightful romp from denial to acceptance after being broken up with, Sam Wants Her Sweater Back is ultimately about recovery from heartbreak through the love of friends.\n\nFlash Sale (13:15min)Autumn Boxley, USA, 2025\n\nTwo trans guys take an unconventional route to raise money for top surgery.\n\nApproximate running time: 63 minutes",

But 3 Hearts of Iron is not a story about proving their humanity through suffering. Surrounded by a fierce and loving community, Schuyler, Chella, and Cal move through the race with joy, interdependence, determination, and extraordinary athleticism.\n\nTogether, they offer a different image of trans life in sport: not one defined by debate or exclusion, but by friendship, excellence, and belonging. In doing so, they show that trans people do more than belong in sports: they have the power to transform and expand what sports can be.\n\nHustleween (20min)Samara Perez Santiago, Puerto Rico, 2026\n\nOn November 2, 2024, a trans and queer squad celebrates the 5th anniversary of “Hustleween“. He lives in his 89-year-old grandmother’s house where he breathes love, understanding and support. They help each other every day, both Ángeles with the recovery after the top surgery and Ángel with the daily housework and the cures to his grandmother.\n\nÁngel tells in first person about his process, how his grandmother is a fundamental pillar, how the sea is a therapeutic place for him and reconnects him with his childhood, the stereotyping of the trans community, dysphoria, time and, most importantly, reconciliation with the body, with its home.\n\nOne Of The Girls (11min)Alexandra Chandra, United States, 2026\n\nOne of the Girls is a short documentary following Mary, a Japanese American immigrant, single mother, and electrologist whose gender-affirming care has made her a trusted figure in the lives of transgender women. Moving between her home and office, the film captures the intimate rhythms of her daily practice through client sessions, conversations, and moments of quiet routine. Weaving together present-day observation with archival materials from transgender history and the AIDS epidemic, the film reveals how Mary’s work extends beyond allyship into a lifelong practice of care, trust, and accomplice-ship.\n\nApproximate running time: 59 minutes",

"description": "The 2026 San Francisco Transgender Film Festival continues with HORROR, a shorts block featuring five terrifying and shocking films.\n\nMascott (13:31min)Marilyne Lamontagne, Canada, 2025\n\nScott, a transgender actor seeking to break out, unexpectedly accepts the lead role as Barry the Bear on a children’s television show. Initially an opportunity for growth, the role soon becomes a suffocating burden as the pressures of fame and hyper-masculine expectations weigh heavily on Scott. As their life becomes consumed by the persona of Barry, Scott reaches a breaking point, culminating in a cathartic release as they tear off the costume—only to find remnants of the bear still clinging, symbolizing the complexities of identity, societal expectations, and authenticity.\n\nVamped (12:41min)Eli Valencia, United States, 2026\n\nAfter attending a vampire-themed party with her best friend, Joaquin, Mina is bitten by a mysterious stranger (Keiran). She begins undergoing unsettling changes. As her senses sharpen and her confidence grows, she starts to realize that the life she feared losing may have been holding her back all along.\n\nDread (10min)Gabe Gabriel & Loren Loubser, South Africa, 2026\n\nSoft-spoken transmasc driver Toni is used to navigating an array of colourful passengers through the economically divided streets of Cape Town in their late father’s vintage Daimler. But when Claudia, a digital nomad with blonde dreadlocks, unloads a traumatic story on a short ride across town, something unseen takes root in the backseat and refuses to leave.\n\nToni quickly becomes convinced that the car is possessed by Claudia’s invisible trauma demon. Their grounded, supportive girlfriend Amanda suggests a calming night drive for ice cream and for a moment, the Daimler seems like its old self again…\n\nUntil they pass Claudia’s drop-off point. Without warning, the car wrenches itself off course and barrels down a dark, tree-lined road. Panic grips the couple who brace for impact as the vehicle collides with something human-sized and screeches to a deadly halt. Turns out karmic justice has a driver of its own.\n\nThe Dysphoria (13min)Kylie Aoibheann, Australia, 2026\n\nThe Dysphoria is an award-winning Australian supernatural horror short film by trans writer-director Kylie Aoibheann. Within the mould of a classic demonic, the film explores the very-real sacrifices that trans people must make in order to be who they are.\n\nAlive (5:30min)Beverly Bradley, United States, 2026\n\nBaby, baby. Now wait and stay. I’m gonna make you scream and pay. Why you look so scared? I thought you wanted a ride? Is it not the right kind of ride? Not the right kind of vibe?\n\nApproximate running time: 55 minutes",
